Privacy Policy for Kana
Effective date: March 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Kana mobile application (the "App") operated by Der Huber - Christian Huber ("we", "our", or "us"). It explains what information is processed when you use Kana, where that information is stored, who receives it, and what choices you have.
By using Kana, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
Kana is designed to work without a traditional account. Most of the information you create in the App stays on your device, but some information is sent to service providers to support analytics and purchases.
a) First Name
When you use the App, you may provide a first name. We store that first name locally on your device to personalize your greeting and in-app experience.
- We do not require your full name.
- We do not verify your identity.
- You may use any name you choose.
The first name you provide is also sent to PostHog through the
App's identify() call together with the App's
analytics identifier so returning usage can be associated with
the same profile across sessions.
b) Analytics and Usage Data
We use PostHog to understand how people interact with Kana and to improve features, reliability, and performance. Analytics information is sent off-device to PostHog.
This can include:
- Screen views
- Analytics events and feature interaction events
- Persistent analytics identifiers and user identifiers
- App version, device information, and operating system information
We use this information to understand usage patterns, measure feature adoption, diagnose issues, and improve the App. For more information, see PostHog's privacy policy.
c) Purchase and Subscription Information
If you purchase a paid plan, purchase and subscription data is processed by RevenueCat together with Google Play.
- Product identifiers and transaction identifiers
- Purchase receipts and subscription status
- Information needed to validate purchases and unlock entitlements
We use this information to provide premium access, restore purchases, and manage entitlements. For more information, see RevenueCat's privacy policy.
d) App Content Stored Locally on Your Device
Kana stores the productivity data you create locally on your device. This includes:
- Tasks and task details
- Memos and notes
- Tags and custom fields
- Workspaces
- App settings and preferences
- Reminder metadata such as due dates, reminder times, and completion state
We do not use these locally stored content items for advertising and they are not sent to us except where specifically described in this policy.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Personalize the App with the first name you provide
- Operate, maintain, and secure the App
- Measure usage, improve features, and troubleshoot issues
- Process purchases, validate subscriptions, and restore entitlements
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
3. How and Where Data Is Shared
We share limited information only as needed to run the App:
- PostHog receives analytics events, screen views, identifiers, and related technical information.
- RevenueCat receives purchase and entitlement-related information to manage paid access.
- Google processes payments, subscriptions, taxes, and refunds through Google Play.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers. We may also disclose information if required by law or if necessary to protect our rights, users, or the App.
4. Retention
- Your locally stored App content remains on your device until you delete it, reset the App, or uninstall the App.
- Your first name remains stored locally until you change or remove it, and may remain in PostHog until deleted under the applicable retention or deletion settings.
- Analytics information is retained according to PostHog's retention settings.
- Purchase and subscription records are retained by RevenueCat and the relevant app store under their own policies.
5. International Processing
Our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. By using the App, you understand that information sent to PostHog, RevenueCat, or Google may be processed in other jurisdictions subject to their practices and safeguards.
6. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Request access to personal information we control
- Request correction or deletion of personal information we control
- Object to or restrict certain processing
You can also delete locally stored App content directly within the App or by uninstalling the App from your device. To submit a privacy request or ask a question about this policy, email [email protected].
7. Children's Privacy
Kana is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information we control. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy on this page and revise the effective date above.
